C. S. Lewis said,
“I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”
I sometimes make the assumption that I should be satisfied with this life. Don’t get me wrong…I love my life. I’m glad I’m married to a beautiful woman, have 3 kids to love, have a home to call my own, and am blessed to pastor at a great church. However, if I’m honest, I often feel unsatisfied. Christ is enough, and I have to remind myself that this world is not my forever home.
In John 16 & 17, Jesus talks about being “not of this world.” Jesus prays to the Father about His disciples. “As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” Don’t miss the surprising prayer of verse 15: “I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.”
That’s my prayer today for you. You are in the world but not of it. You are not removed from the world but sent into it with Jesus’ prayer to be kept from the Devil. So, one day we will arrive in heavenly spaces with God on the throne and Jesus by His side. Until then, let’s make the effort to stay uncomfortable for the sake of the Gospel. In Jesus’ Name….AMEN!
