“I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens.” Philippians 4:12
See the apostle Paul sitting in his prison cell. Notice that he’s bent over and looks frail as he is shackled to the arm of a Roman guard. The apostle of God doesn’t look like greatness. He is dead broke. He has no family. He owns no property. He is nearsighted and worn out. Not much of a hero to look at. Some of his words don’t sound like a hero either. He calls himself the worst sinner in history. He was a Christian-killer before he was a Christian leader. Sometimes he was so physically weary and soul weary that his pen surely must’ve barely drug across the parchment.
“What a miserable man I am! Who will save me from this body of death?” Romans 7:24
Only heaven knew how long he would stare at the parchment asking himself that question. But then, from deep within, he found the courage to write,
“I thank God for saving me through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 7:25
Say it with him today, in spite of how weary or confused your world may be.
